Comprehensive Air Cleaning Options
There are a number of different types of air cleaners on the market. We install and services options ranging from air filtration systems that are far more powerful that the standard air filter that comes with your HVAC system to mechanical air purifiers and UV germicidal lights. What you need to know though, is how these systems help your home!
Mechanical Air Filters
Standard air filters are quite efficient at removing particles from the air as it passes through them, but because large particles often settle onto surfaces before they reach the filter they can be less effective at removing them completely. Mechanical filters are available in different levels of efficiency.
Their filtration efficiency is measured on the MERV (minimum efficiency reporting value) scale. This rating system ranges from 1, being the lowest, all the way up to twenty, representing the maximum. It’s important to note that the higher the filtration, the more airflow restriction there is, so for most residences, a mid-range MERV filter is probably best.
UV Germicidal Lights
UV germicidal lights are safe and easy to maintain. Germicidal lights kill harmful microorganisms, such as viruses, bacteria, and some molds. They also can kill pest eggs, including bed bugs, dust mites, and fleas. If your home is poorly sealed or doesn’t have enough ventilation, UV lights can help to improve indoor air quality. When there’s adequate ventilation, the air circulation helps to rid your home of harmful particles and indoor air pollutants.
Used in tandem with air cleaners, UV germicidal lights can help to provide more protection from these particles and allergens that cause health problems. Additionally, UV lights can increase HVAC efficiency because better indoor air quality helps to maintain proper temperatures within the home.
Air Cleaner Repair and Maintenance
Like any other home comfort system, your air cleaner will not work indefinitely without ever needing service. It’s important to have your air cleaner system inspected as part of your HVAC maintenance session you have every six months (once for your heating system and once for your AC).
Even small problems can cause serious damage given enough time, so early detection is the best way to avoid issues with your air filtration, air purifier, or UV light system. If repairs are necessary, our team has the experience with these systems to get yours operating efficiently again fast. Contact us today with any questions you have!
