Service Plumbing Estimator

Job Description

This role is responsible for accurately reviewing/analyzing plans, specifications, submissions, and other contract documents for successful completion of projects in the Service Plumbing Department as assigned.  The Plumbing Estimator will review project plans/specs to meet customer expectation by acquiring competitive pricing for the entire scope of work. 

Level/Salary Range: Compensation based on skill level.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect plans and specifications of projects
  • During the bid process, prepare transmittals, distribute plans, specs, details, and addenda to customers/subcontractors
  • Plan detailed quantity and complete scope of all work
  • Prepare budget and cost models for projects
  • Implement continuous monitoring of open bids, RFP’s and estimate assignments
  • Conduct estimating duties from time of projects introduction to beginning of construction
  • Provide project estimates
  • Complete change order estimates as needed
  • Discuss with involved parties to review estimate and resolve issues
  • Remain in plan to help maintain profit margins and handle any changes to original estimates
  • Communicate effectively with those involved in the assigned project
  • Audit contracts and markup scope; send contacts to appropriate parties for review
  • Ensuring accuracy of items submitted
  • Smoothly transition to pre-start by thoroughly reviewing and providing all needed information
  • Strategically search for new projects through customer networks and referrals
  • Meticulously inspect all written communication to contractors/customers.
  • Establish and build good working relationships with contractors/customers
  • Log project timelines and maintain database of tasks and statuses
  • Update information into database and provide schedule reports for contract coordination and reporting purposes
  • Conduct analysis and communicate to management to determine alternative courses of action or recovery when needed
  • Maintain accurate records and paperwork related to estimations
  • Attends and participates in employee meetings/training
  • Other duties as needed or assigned by Manager

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Previous plumbing estimating background is required
  • Ability to build rapport with builders, management, and co-workers
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office—Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Must be deadline, goal and detail-oriented
  • Good organization skills, with ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the plumbing industry
  • Ability to know local codes and to use available resources to find solutions
  • Positive and professional demeanor
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills on the phone, in email or in person.
  • Ability to interpret contract specs
  • Ability to understand sequencing of complex projects

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

This position requires interaction in and out of an office environment. Must be able to communicate over the phone, over email, and in person.  Work outside the office will require driving, walking, being outdoors and on job sites as needed.  May be exposed to heights or required to climb a ladder. Office work requires sitting, handling/grasping, and repetitive motions for long periods of time.
